HAND-LETTERING FOR BEGINNERS | MINI SERIES

I get a lot of lovely comments about the hand lettering I do on envelopes, place settings and other bespoke pieces I do for people, so I thought I would put together a mini-series for you guys to learn some really basic hand lettering steps that you could immediately implement!

In these videos I show you how to start forming letters that join together, how to make letters look like calligraphy, even when you aren’t using a calligraphy pen, and how to make envelopes look really pretty so that your friends and family are really impressed when your creations land on their doormats!

You don’t need any special pens for these videos at all, just give them a watch and work along with whatever you have at home; I do recommend other pens in the video but, quite honestly, you can get great results using a simple felt tip pen, so just start with what you have!

In the first video I am showing you how to form both upper and lower case letters and how to link them to each other in various ways.

Video two is all about forming letters that look like calligraphy… but aren’t actually! I am showing you how to ‘fake it’ so that you can use fine lined pens, rather than investing in calligraphy sets right away.

The last video is all about envelopes! I always decorate my envelopes when I send out orders and have done lots of envelopes for people as part of their wedding stationery too, and I adore seeing a well put together envelope, they look so pretty and I think they send a message to people that you really thought about them when writing a card or sending a letter. Everyone needs an extra piece of joy in their life, and it is often the little things that make someones day. So have a watch of this last video and see if it ups your envelope game!

In the next blog post I am going to show you some of the various things that hand-lettering can be used on and for. There are so many options and, if you are planning a wedding or event, you will need to see the next post!
